Surjit Singh Ghuman MBE

Why did you join the presenting team at Panjab Radio?

I started Panjab Radio because, at the time, my children at home would be shy when speaking in Panjabi. It dawned on me that this situation may be similar in other Panjabi households and I wanted to do something about it.

I realized there was no UK-based media that is purely Panjabi so, to strengthen the bond between the younger generation and our mother tongue, I created the world’s first 100% Panjabi speaking radio station on 1st September 2000.
